DmIRC Version 5.0

No installation necessary, since this is a "portable" version of mIRC. Just unzip and double-click mIRC.exe.

This makes for an easy trial run, especially if you're unsure whether you want to keep this. You can run this along with whatever IRC client you're currently using. In fact, if you unzip to two folders, you can run both v5.0 in parallel, as seen in the screenshot above.

Enabling sound alerts in mIRC

So... I missed that deadline by a ~month. Sorry :(

The next version is finished though, to be released next Sunday/Monday. And it's not a beta! I know, shocking! Just sitting on it right now to make sure that all the bugs are squished.

So in preparation for that release, here's a small guide on how to enable sound alerts in mIRC.

1. Hit [Alt][B] and then click on the Highlight tab (1). Click Add (2).
2. Type the words that you want to trigger the sound (3). Separate each word with a comma. The * are wildcards. As shown, they will trigger if someone types "xxxdharmaxxx". If not used, the sound will only trigger if someone types "dharma" without surrounding characters.

Choose a color that will apply to the triggering text (4).

Choose a sound by clicking the button below twice (5).

It will cycle through No Sound, Beep, then it will open a file browser. There will be several .wav files that come with the portable install. If there's nothing there, you're not using my portable :) Choose a sound and click open. Preview the sound by pressing the play button (6).

You're done! Hit OK and OK.
